A little clarity before you decide

Start with the acne you actually have

At AB House of Aesthetics, Amardeep Kaur, nurse practitioner and founder, begins with your history, current routine, and the type of breakouts you are experiencing. The goal is a practical plan that respects both your skin and your day-to-day life, not a promise that one procedure will solve every concern.

Our practice uses the Aerolase Neo Elite. Laser may be discussed as one option in a broader acne plan for selected patients. We welcome Sacramento, Elk Grove, and nearby communities to our single Sacramento office at 7501 Hospital Drive, Suite 205. A consultation helps determine whether aesthetic laser care or medical dermatology should be the next step.

Breakouts, dark marks, and scars are different concerns

Acne can include clogged pores, inflamed pimples, and deeper tender lesions. It is influenced by several factors, including oil production, blocked follicles, inflammation, and hormonal influences. Acne is not a sign that you are unclean, and aggressive washing or repeated scrubbing can add irritation without treating the underlying problem.

Flat red or brown marks after a breakout are different from active acne and from depressed or raised scars. A treatment that helps inflammatory breakouts may not address each of those concerns equally. We separate them during your consultation so that improvement is measured against the problem we are actually treating.

For medical background, read American Academy of Dermatology: lasers and acne. Your consultation applies this information to your own health and goals.

Where laser belongs in an acne treatment plan

Established acne care includes topical treatments and, for some people, oral medications. The appropriate choices depend on severity, pregnancy considerations, previous response, and other health factors. We do not describe laser as universally better than medication, the first choice for everyone, or a reason to stop a treatment that is helping.

Aerolase Neo Elite delivers 1064 nm Nd:YAG laser energy. For appropriately selected acne concerns, it may be considered as an adjunctive procedure. That is different from claiming that it permanently shuts down oil glands, eliminates every acne-causing organism, or prevents all future breakouts. Your response cannot be predicted from someone else’s result.

Painful nodules, rapidly worsening acne, or new scarring deserve timely medical assessment. A dermatology referral may be more useful than booking repeated aesthetic sessions. Likewise, a rash that resembles acne may be rosacea, folliculitis, or another condition, which changes the treatment conversation.

What we discuss before recommending treatment

Tell us how long breakouts have been present, where they occur, and what makes them better or worse. Bring the names of prescriptions, over-the-counter products, supplements, and any previous isotretinoin use. We also ask about cold sores, scarring, pigment changes, recent tanning, pregnancy or breastfeeding, and other procedures.

Your priorities matter. Some people want fewer inflamed lesions; others are most bothered by marks or texture. We clarify which goal is realistic for the proposed treatment and which may need a separate approach. Share upcoming events or travel so that recovery planning is honest rather than rushed.

Getting ready without over-treating your skin

Avoid intentional tanning and tell us about sunburn or recent prolonged sun exposure. Do not introduce a strong new acid, scrub, or home treatment immediately before your appointment. If your skin is already burning, peeling, or unusually sensitive, let us know before the treatment day so we can reassess.

We will explain whether to pause particular skincare ingredients and when they can be restarted. Do not discontinue prescribed acne medicine or other medication on your own. Timing decisions depend on the product, procedure, and your history rather than a universal rule copied from another person’s aftercare instructions.

During your Aerolase visit

If you are a suitable candidate and choose treatment, we review the planned area and provide protective eyewear. The provider applies the laser in a controlled manner and checks your comfort. You may feel warmth or discomfort. Speak up if a sensation feels unexpectedly painful so the treatment can be reassessed.

Appointment length and treatment coverage depend on the area and the plan. We do not promise that every visit is painless, takes a fixed number of minutes, or has no downtime. Before leaving, you should understand your immediate skin response, the recovery instructions, and how to contact the practice with concerns.

Possible side effects and reasons to wait

Temporary redness, swelling, tenderness, or irritation may occur. Laser procedures also carry risks such as burns, blistering, infection, scarring, and lighter or darker skin color. A history of post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation is especially important when planning care for acne-prone skin. No skin tone is automatically risk-free.

Active infection, open or severely irritated skin, recent sunburn, or certain health and medication factors may mean deferring treatment. A new painful eruption should not be assumed to be a harmless purge. Increasing pain, blisters, drainage, spreading redness, or unexpected discoloration after treatment should be reported promptly.

Aftercare: keep the routine supportive

Follow the instructions supplied for your visit. Gentle cleansing, a suitable moisturizer, and sun protection are generally more helpful than trying to scrub the skin clear. Avoid picking or squeezing lesions, because additional injury can contribute to marks and scarring. Restart active ingredients according to your individualized guidance.

Choose products labeled non-comedogenic when appropriate, and avoid layering multiple new acne products at once. Daily broad-spectrum SPF 30 or higher is important, especially if marks are a concern. Tell us if a product stings or your routine feels too irritating to follow. A workable plan is more valuable than a complicated one you cannot tolerate.

Results, follow-up, and the next decision

Possible improvement means fewer or calmer-looking breakouts, not a guaranteed completely clear complexion. Changes can take time, and repeat treatment may be discussed. Breakouts can recur because the factors driving acne can continue. We review response before deciding whether to continue, adjust care, or recommend another route.

Scar-focused procedures are a separate decision, often considered once active acne is better controlled. Microneedling, peels, and pigment care are not interchangeable or automatically combined with laser. We discuss whether any additional procedure is appropriate and how to space care to avoid unnecessary irritation.

Your questions, welcomed

Laser Acne Treatment FAQs

Will Aerolase cure my acne?

No cure or complete clearance is guaranteed. Laser may help selected patients as part of a broader plan, but recurrence and variable response are possible. Persistent or severe acne may need prescription management or dermatology care rather than aesthetic laser alone.

Can it replace my acne medication?

Not automatically. Keep taking prescribed medication unless the prescribing clinician advises otherwise. We review your existing plan and coordinate treatment timing rather than asking you to abandon useful care to have a procedure.

Will this remove my acne scars too?

Active acne, residual color, and structural scarring are different. Improvement in one does not promise improvement in all three. We assess the scar type separately and discuss whether a later texture-focused consultation is appropriate.

How many visits should I book?

Start with an assessment rather than preselecting a package. The number and spacing of visits depend on suitability, response, and your broader care plan. More sessions are not automatically the right answer if progress is limited.

Is treatment suitable if I get dark marks easily?

That history is important to share. Both acne inflammation and procedural irritation can contribute to pigment changes. We consider your skin tone, prior reactions, and current skin condition, and discuss alternatives if the risk outweighs the likely benefit.

What should I bring to my consultation?

Bring your medication and skincare list, previous treatment information, and a clear description of your main concern. If breakouts fluctuate, your own dated photographs may help explain their pattern. Consultation is a chance to ask questions before choosing any treatment.

Is a standard aesthetic consultation free?

Yes. All standard aesthetic consultations are completely free ($0), with no reservation deposit, consultation fee, credit card requirement or obligation to purchase treatment. Treatment costs are separate and will be discussed before any treatment is performed.

What if I need to cancel or reschedule my consultation?

We kindly request at least 24 hours’ notice as a courtesy. Free consultations have no cancellation or no-show fees. Clients arriving more than 10 minutes late may need to reschedule. Repeated no-shows may result in restricted online scheduling, with future appointments arranged directly through our office. Contact the practice at 916-910-0018 to change your appointment.
